Kelso Mountain Bike Race Series 2012

MEN'S - "Best 10" Cumulative results

WOMEN'S - "Best 10" Cumulative Results

Well… that’s it, that’s all!

Race 14 has entered the record books!

Everyone here at Kelso would like to thank and congratulate all of the riders who came out and took part in this seasons series. We had new riders, kids, seniors, pro’s, and everything in between.

Our “little grass roots event” really came into its own… with races that drew crowds of 225 + riders , and a series that had over 500 individual racers, we truly had an amazing season!

The race 14 results are posted, along with the Mens and Womens Best 10 standings. We wont call them “OFFICIAL” as of yet… we do typically have 1 or 2 people step forward and indicate they may have missed a corner, or DQ themselves for other reasons…

We will allow you to view the results and bring any questions, concerns, or updates forward before we call them official. For the most part though, it is very safe to say that things will not change much from what you see here.

To those of you who have won your categories, or age groups, we owe you a big congrats! A true accomplishment!

To the rest of the riders, be sure to remember that we all start somewhere… some of this years winners were last years runner ups! As we have said all along, we wish to celebrate the kids who have gotten into a new sport this summer, the young beginner, sport, and expert class riders who have jumped up a category from last season, and we definitely want to congratulate the riders who have come out this year and discovered a new passion! Its been an awesome summer… and you have all helped make it so!

Next week will be our annual Race Series Finale event! Don’t miss out!

Race #11 - Cancelled due to weather

Race #12

Route #1 - May 22nd
A flowy, failry open and easier course to start the series

Route #2 - May 29th
The same as route #1 but with the addition of Old Dump trail to give you a few hundred extra metres and a little bit more technical challenge each lap

Route #3 - June 5th
Very similar to route #2 but in an effort to spread the pack out a bit more before the Fire climb we have added some additional distance and a bit of climbing around the bottom of the ski hill and into the tube park.  Due to the weather we won't have the grass cut on these new sections until Monday afternoon so come for a spin on Monday night  or a little early on Tuesday if you want a chance to check it out.

Route #4 - June 12th & 19th & 26th
An almost completely new route for Race #4.  This one offers a bit more technical challenge but still enough wide open stretches for passing along with a stiff climb up the tube hill to spread things out.  Here's a link to GPS data of my lap if you're interested (we've added a traverse on the Tube Park climb since I rode this so the route differs slightly there).  All of the new signage should be up for the weekend so come on out and give it a try before race day!

Route #5 - July 3rd (cancelled) & 10th & 17th & 24th
We've added in a bit more technical singletrack in but tried to keep it fun and flowing.  As before here's a link to the GPS data of my lap if you're interested.  The trail is now prepped and marked for you to pre-ride before next Tuesday.  Enjoy!

Route #6 - July 31st (cancelled) & August 7th
You don't want to miss this one, it's a doozy!  Over 8km and taking in some of the best that Kelso has to offer, I think you're going to love it. Here's the link to my Garmin data (whoa, check out that top speed!) and it's also on Strava with the loop set as a segment for those of you that are in to that.

Route #7 -
We never actually got a chance to run this one as we decided it need to be shorter for daylight reasons.  Apologies to those that pre-rode it.

Route #8 - August 14th & 21st
Similar to Route #6 but eliminates Bruce Trail Connector, Farmer Peter's Field and Rough Trade to help us finish before the sun goes down.

The weekly MTB race series is BACK for 2012 with 14 races and the Finale Event!

Races begin on May 22 and run every Tuesday until the Finale Event on August 28 (last race August 21).

With 14 races in total and multiple distances/categories this is a great addition to your training program with some of the best climbs in southern Ontario or a fun way to challenge yourself to achieve a personal best.

Sign up for the series (14 races + finale event) and choose to race as many as you want; or sign up for individual races whenever you want. (We encourage EVERYONE to sign up for the series as it's such a great value and it makes our lives that much easier).

Why You Should Sign Up For The Entire Series:

  • You will receive a super duper free and rather fancy pants Kelso Race Series T-Shirt.
  • There are 14 races so signing up for the whole series works out at only $6.05/race.
  • Dependig on the package you opt for the full series rate is a better deal even if you can only make 6 or 7 of the races.
  • You will only have to complete the registration form and waiver ONCE – saving you precious time each Tuesday because all you will have to do is sign in as apposed to completing two forms and paying each time you race.
  • You will get to keep your number plate for the whole season – and for ever after. (single racers must return their number plates after each event).
  • AND maybe most importantly, we will track your results for the season end category awards (NEW for 2012 - we WILL NOT be tracking results for single race entries).

  • We will once again offer a safe, fun, challenging and FREE kids course at the base of the hill so be sure to bring the little ones out for a taste of the action.
  • An ALL NEW short course for the kids that is completely separate from the long course to improve the safety and enjoyment for everyone was unveiled in 2011 and got a big thumbs up from the kids so we'll stick with it. The loop is approximately 500m and the kids go 'round 4 times. It's all on grass and involves a bit of climbing and a downhill where the speeds can get up a little. All are welcome but even the kids should have at least some decent bike handling skills and good brakes (coaster brakes aren't ideal).

  • The races run every Tuesday from 22 May to 21 August, 2012 plus a killer fun Finale Event on Tuesday 28 August – includes awards, prizes, BBQ, and whacky mountain bike challenges for all ages.

  • Races start at the bottom of the Twister Chairlift.

  • Races start at 6:45pm. Experts go first, Sports 2nd, Beginner and Short Course 3rd.

  • Races usually finish at around 8pm.

  • The course changes regularly throughout the season to keep things fresh.

  • Trail listing and map posted on this web page.

  • The course is marked by square blue signs with a white biker.

  • On race night the course is partially taped off with yellow caution tape. A line of tape indicates a turn coming up, and a corridor of tape indicates you have made the turn.

  • First Aid Certified Marshals (Kelso’s and Hilton Fall’s volunteer Trail Ambassadors) on course at each race.

  • The distance of each course loop ranges from around 5.5km to 7.5km (it gets longer as the season goes on and your lungs and legs get bigger).

  • Free kids course (Short Course) – a 500m loop cycled four times skirting the bottom of the slopes. Suitable for kids ages 5 (with someone to push them!) to 10.

  • Three categories for the main course: Beginner (do one loop), Sport (do two loops), and Expert (do three loops).

  • Lucky draw ticket for every participant at each race with $1000’s of top quality prizes to give away this season from our fabulous sponsors.

  • Points awarded and accumulated weekly for Series registrants (points will NOT be accumulated for single race entries) and prizes for the category winners on 30th August.

  • How do I find out if a race is cancelled? If we decide to cancel a race due to torrential rain, thunder and lightening or for any other environmental concern that could place us all in jeopardy, we will put a cancellation notice here by 4:30pm on the day of the race.

  • A HUGE thank you to our wonderful sponsors! It's an honour to partner with these excellent local stores and companies.
  • Please visit the stores and mention that you heard about them at the Kelso Race Series.
  • Due to their support, we have a huge amount of top quality lucky draw prizes to give away at each race and some rather tasty grand prizes for the category winners at the end of season.
